New Name for Baldwin
Posted 15 Aug 1879, Harrisburg Daily Independent
The Baldwin Weekly Item says: Steelton is the name proposed by Maj. Bent and adopted by a large list of signers by which this place will be known in the near future. It is proposed to have the P. K. R. station now called Baldwin, and the postoffice, now called Steel Work, changed to Steelton, and from this change the town will take its name, it will be some time yet before the name will be officially adopted. But in the meantime make it so by custom by speaking cf it in future as Steelton rather than Baldwin. The difficulties heretofore experienced in mail matter being directed to Baldwin (which is in Butler county) will then be obviated, and railroad station, postoffice and town win soon Do passing under the pretty and appropriate name of Steelton.
