State of Emergency Declared for the Borough of Steelton Beginning at 3pm 1/22/2016

UPDATED: 1/23/2016 12:30am

Based on the current 24″-36″ forecast, it appears that accumulations will be more than expected.  Public Works continues to try to keep the main roads open.  We ask all residents to be patient.   If you do not have to go anywhere, don’t.    Once the “dig out” begins, we ask residents for their cooperation by not shoveling into the street and by not putting any items into parking spaces that have been cleared.   Please be neighborly and check on your neighbors and assist in any way you can.    This is an historic event and everyones cooperation will be needed.

UPDATED: 1/23/2016 9am

Borough Public Works staff, the Steelton Fire Department, and the Steelton Police Department have been working around the clock since last evening to keep up with the winter storm. With a rapid rate of snowfall and total accumulations projected at 24 to 30-plus inches, this is a significant weather event that requires significant work to keep up with.

Due to the rapid rate of snowfall, secondary streets and alleys will take time to be plowed and treated as the Public Works Department focuses on keeping main roads in the Borough accessible.

Please be patient as we continue to keep up with the storm.

As a reminder, please use the following numbers for snow-related issues:

  • In the case of an emergency, immediately dial 9-1-1
  • To report issues related to water-lines, sewer-lines, utilities, or streets, call the Steelton Public Works staff at 717-939-5282 ext. 2
  • To report any health, safety, or welfare issues related to the storm, call the Steelton Fire Department at (717) 939-2478 or the Steelton Police Department at (717)-939-9841
  • Report any power outages to PPL Electric Utilities 1-800-DIAL-PPL (1-800-342-5775) / PPL Outage Center

When possible, please keep walkways and sidewalks clear and do not shovel snow into the street.

Borough staff, the Fire Department, and Police Department will continue to work hard throughout the storm.

Due to the impending snow storm, Mayor Thomas Acri has called a state of emergency for the Borough of Steelton starting at 3pm on Friday, January 22nd and in effect until Sunday, January 24th at 3pm.

Beginning at 3pm today Front Street will be a “No Parking” zone. Residents are asked to remove vehicles from Front Street by 3pm today or face the possibility of their vehicle being towed. The Steelton Police Department will be reminding residents at 3pm who have not yet moved their vehicle.

It is critical that residents keep Front Street clear of vehicles during the State of Emergency in order to allow Public Works Staff, the Fire Department, and the Police Department access to treat roads and respond to emergencies.

During the snow event this weekend, residents can reach the following numbers for non-emergency snow-related issues:

  • In the case of an emergency, immediately dial 9-1-1
  • To report issues related to water-lines, sewer-lines, utilities, or streets, call the Steelton Public Works staff at 717-939-5282 ext. 2
  • To report any health, safety, or welfare issues related to the storm, call the Steelton Fire Department at (717) 939-2478 or the Steelton Police Department at (717)-939-9841

It is important that residents are prepared for any inclement weather event, including this weekend’s winter storm. Please follow your local news and the Borough website (www.steeltonpa.com) for updates as the storm event progresses.
