Community Garden & Fridge Programs

In July 2023, the Borough of Steelton received funding to construct a community garden at Mohn Street Park. There are 14 plots available for residents to reserve, allowing community members to grow any crop of their choice while taking responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of their garden bed.
The program is FREE for all residents, with reservations for plots on a first-come, first-served basis. Also offered with the program is personalized assistance from our master gardeners to ensure your fruits and vegetables are growing healthily, one-on-one demonstrations and cooking classes, nutrition education, exclusive events, and much more.
2026 Upcoming Event Schedule:

Community Fridge Program
Thanks to our partners at Penn State Health, the community fridge is now OPEN year-round on the 2nd floor of the Municipal Building. Stop by during business hours for produce, dairy, and other healthy food options. The program is FREE, no questions asked! We also regularly place our excess harvest from the community garden in the fridge, so please stop by and take advantage of fresh, locally grown herbs, fruits & vegetables!
Quick reminders:
- Please sign out what you take using the sheet on the fridge door. You can sign your name or initials.
- Only take what your household will eat so we can avoid waste and keep the food available for everyone.
- Only adults (18+) may access the fridge. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
